The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE) for personal achievement of young people aged 14 to 25 years is very popular with students at the School. There are currently 116 pupils involved in the Bronze Award, 60 taking Silver and 80 working towards the Gold Award.
Brentwood School pupils from the Third Form onwards can complete the three levels of the Award: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Participants must demonstrate achievement through various activities and trips in four sections:
- Service: helping the community (for example, working with a charity).
- Skills: a hobby, skill or interest (for example, showing progress with a musical instrument).
- Physical recreation: sports, dance, or fitness.
- Expeditions: can be by foot, bicycle, on horseback or on water.
The expedition can take place almost anywhere in the countryside, both in the UK or abroad and can last from two to four days depending on the level of award.
