Mr Ian Davies, MA, FRSA

Mr Davies began his teaching career in 1981 after a Degree in Theology from St John’s College, Oxford University, and a Post Graduate Certificate of Education from Cambridge University. He taught for 10 years in the maintained sector before moving as Head of the Lower School at Latymer Upper in 1992.

He became Headmaster of St Dunstan’s College in London in January 1998, during which time he was Chairman of HMC (London Division), and the Independent Schools Advisor to the Duke Of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. For several years he served as a Boarding Headmaster on the Admiralty Board, helping to select for The Royal Naval College in Dartmouth. 

Appointed Headmaster of Brentwood School in September 2004, his other interests include the Brentwood Theatre, of which he is Chairman, and being a Governor of St Aubyn’s Preparatory School in Woodford Green, where he chairs the Education and Public Benefit Committees. His other interests include occasional games of Cricket and Golf, and Rugby, which he no longer plays!

Mrs Nicola Jenkin, BA, MA
Senior Deputy Head (Pastoral)
Designated Safeguarding Lead
Teacher of German

Mrs Jenkin is Senior Deputy Head responsible for pastoral care.  She is the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the Senior School and is a member of the German department.  Mrs Jenkin holds an MA from Cambridge in Modern Languages and started her teaching career in 1989. Before joining Brentwood in September 2013 she gained experience as a resident boarding tutor at King Edward’s School, Witley, worked as a modern languages teacher at St Albans’ High School for Girls, the Almaty International School in Kazakhstan and Merchant Taylors’ Boys’ School and was then appointed as Head of German and Deputy Head of Sixth Form at St Helen’s School, Northwood. She moved to Sir William Perkin's School, Chertsey, in 2007, to become Head of Sixth Form and the member of the Senior Leadership team responsible for teacher training.


Mr Jonathan Barfield Moore, MA

Mr Barfield joined the school in 2014 as Director of the IB Diploma Programme. He read Philosophy at Churchill College, Cambridge and is currently most interested in Political Philosophy, Nietzsche and existentialism. He teaches IB Philosophy and IB Theory of Knowledge, as well as Religion.



Mr Jonathan Cohen, BSc, MEd
Deputy Head (Staffing, Operations & Co-Curricular)
Teacher of Economics

Mr Cohen is Deputy Head responsible for all matters relating to staffing, the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the school and the leadership of Brentwood's co-curricular programme. He joined Brentwood in June 2015, having previously worked at Haileybury College in Hertfordshire as Head of Economics and Director of Professional Development from 2006. Prior to teaching, he enjoyed a career in investment banking in the City. He has a BSc in Economics from the University of Bath, an MEd in Educational Leadership from the University of Buckingham and is currently studying for a PhD in Education at the University of Bath. He is also a keen coach and referee/umpire of rugby, football, hockey and cricket.

Mrs Sarah Carswell, BA (Hons) ACA
Finance Director & Deputy Bursar

Mrs Sarah Carswell has been at Brentwood School since 2010 and is the School's Finance Director and Deputy Bursar. She read History at the University of East Anglia and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Peat Marwick (later KPMG) in 1986. She spent several years working in industry as Financial Controller for John Brown Engineering PLC, part of the Trafalgar House Group, before moving into the Education sector. As Financial Director she is responsible for the School’s finances and is a Compliance Inspector for Independent Schools.



Mr Oli Adams, BA (Hons)
Director of Communications, Admissions & Development

Mr Adams joined Brentwood School in 2014 after spending ten years in a variety of senior sales and marketing roles at Pearson, the world's largest education company. He manages the communications, marketing and pupil recruitment for the whole school as well as the Old Brentwoods relations and fundraising activity. He chairs the 'Friends of Brentwood School' (parent association) Committee and the Staff Social Committee. He also acts as a Board Director for AMCIS, the Association for Admissions, Marketing and Communications in Independent Schools.

He was educated at St. Columba's College, an independent school in his home city of St. Albans in Hertfordshire and went on to study French & German at the University of Exeter from 1997 to 2001, spending a year abroad in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, teaching English to German pupils aged between 10 and 14. He now lives in a village south of Bishop's Stortford with his wife and two children.

He is a self-confessed brand and grammar geek and in his spare time, he enjoys travelling, cooking, wine, gardening, swimming, and walking.



Mr Thomas Beedell, BSc, MA
Director of Studies

Teacher of Mathematics

Mr Thomas Beedell is Director of Studies and a former Head of Department. He joined Brentwood School in 2013, having previously taught at Sydney Russell School. He has an Economics degree from London School of Economics and after completing his PGCE at King’s College London he also gained a Master’s in Mathematics Education. He is currently a 2nd year tutor and Master in Charge of Cross-country. He sits on the Senior Leadership Team.



Ms Dina Porovic, MSc
Teacher of Mathematics
Director of Teaching and Learning 
Mrs Dina Porovic is Director of Teaching & Learning. She joined Brentwood School in 2014 as Head of Mathematics, having previously been Head of Mathematics at the Stephen Perse Foundation and Head of PSHE & Citizenship at St Albans School. She has a mathematics masters degree from Imperial College London. She trained on the Teach First programme. In addition to her teaching she runs mathematics support sessions for younger pupils and mathematical enrichment in the 6th Form. She sits on the Senior Leadership Team.



Mr Ian Wignall, BA
Director of Sport
Head of Fifth Year

Mr Wignall is passionate about sport and hopes to promote both participation and excellence. He previously played football for Southend United and Grays Athletic.  As a fitness enthusiast Mr Wignall hopes to inspire a future generation of young sportsmen and women to enjoy a lifelong commitment to sport. He sits on the School's Senior Leadership Team.
